E7 : The Greatest

Available now on Spotify and Apple Podcasts

The late songwriter Linda Creed, née Epstein, once said, "The Greatest Love of All" (learning to love yourself) is easy to achieve. Natalie and Sam respectfully beg to differ. For them, the road to self-love has been bumpy, lumpy, and never-ending. Because if loving yourself was as easy as getting some rose quartz, maintaining a gratitude journal and/or absorbing all of Instagram's (or Indigo's) positive quotes and affirmations, we'd all be doing it! For these full fatties, self-love has been (and continues to be) a process or "journey", one they've had to negotiate alongside recovery, relationships, highs, and humiliations. For episode seven, the ladies share why one of their favourite songs in the world got it wrong (somewhat).

Episode Glossary
The Work: a pesky blanket term that seems to get used to describe any type of self development these days.
Stand By Me: a 1986 American coming-of-age film directed by Rob Reiner that has a classic soundtrack.
Towanda: a reference to the alter-ego of a character in the film Fried Green Tomatoes. It’s a word she says when she wants to be empowered. We haven’t been able to confirm its exact origin, but it looks like this word may have been taken from an Osage Nation word (we’ll be mindful not to use this in our language moving forward).
Radical Acceptance: a self help book written by Tara Brach that urges us to accept ourselves and our pain, radically.
Forest of Feelings: the Forest of Feelings is located within the Kingdom of Caring. It is the home of the Care Bear Cousins.
Care-A-Lot: the homeland of 80s cartoon characters the Care Bears.
The Ring: a 2002 American supernatural horror film directed by Gore Verbinski and starring Naomi Watts.
NXIVM: an alleged American sex cult that claimed to be a multi-level marketing company.
